Two North Carolina men have been arrested and charged with trying to scam an elderly man, Wake Forest Police report.

Authorities say the elderly man was in his front yard over the weekend when a white truck stopped in the roadway. The two men, identified as Charles Barnes, Jr. and Travis K. Tyndall, told the elderly man that a gutter drain pipe was not securely fastened to the house and offered to fix it for $25.

After the victim consented to the repair he noticed both men on his roof. The suspects informed the homeowner that they discovered a hole in his roof and they were going to repair it for $525. The elderly man heard saws running and watched as the suspects cut a hole in the roof.

The victim called police and when officers arrived on scene, the suspects had removed about 40 feet of roofing.

Barnes and Tyndall were charged with obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to commit obtaining property by false pretense, and injury to real property in the amount of $30,000.
