Mashpee Wamapanoag Tribe nears new Class III gaming deal

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is close to a new Class III gaming compact with the state of Massachusetts. The first compact was rejected by the Bureau of Indian Affairs due to a high revenue-sharing rate. A new deal is expected shortly. "We are very pleased with the progress we have made in our discussions with Gov. Patrick. We will bring this matter to our tribal council and pending their approval we expect to sign a new compact very soon," Chairman Cedric Cromwell said in a statement, according to news reports. The tribe issued the statement after Gov. Deval Patrick (D) said a deal was reached in an interview on WGBH Radio. Get the Story:
